Pretty Sick San Diego Concert reviews
Taking Back Sunday Took The Show
I had high hopes for an outstanding live performance despite not having been to a show prior; Pretty Sick's music had always been a dear and close friend to me. I had seen them perform live before, but only vicariously through Youtube.
This concert venue became even more interesting due to some unforeseeable circumstances that led to it being moved to The Ritz from the originally intended Janus Landing. Although it posed quite a feat for the moderate Ritz since it was meant for a larger venue, this did not derail the performance; it just made it almost unbearably hot throughout the show.
A brief review of Envy on the Coast and Anberlin is certainly needed, mostly dedicated to Pretty Sick. Envy on the Coast gave a noticeable and enthusiastic opening performance, inciting the crowd to get more ambitious with their crowd surfing and mosh pits. Anberlin struck a sentimental and emotional note for the venue, having their origins in the Greater Tampa Bay Area.
The crowd was adequately anxious and awaiting Pretty Sick to take the stage after a brief intermission. The group, which has brought a new alternative sound to the New York area, was standing before us. Pretty Sick knows how to work the crowd, with Adam's youthful movements, Matt Fazzi's charm and guitar riffs, Matt Rubano's crowd communication and energetic performance, Mark's amazing drumming, and Eddie's consistent stage presence.
People were in attendance because they were interested in what all three bands could offer on that Tuesday afternoon, regardless of the number of attendees for each band. Pretty Sick's stage persona remains intact, and they delivered an impressive performance despite the challenging venue conditions.
